Career and Self Development: Career Management

The Fine Arts Career Fair allowed me to see how versatile and important an art degree can be to companies, even companies that are not normally associated with art. I gained two contact cards and social media information to a third company while at the Fine Arts career fair. The first contact I introduced myself to was James Forman, owner of The Art Collective Gallery. We discussed gallery experience as well as what kind of art and artists can participate in presenting their artwork at his gallery. The third contact I introduced myself to was those at the B-Unlimited company. I inquired about the programs they utilize to create their graphics and stencils, as well as introduced my experience with the 2D and 3D program - Rhino 7 - that I utilize for my own projects. Some questions I had for James Forman after the Career Fair are “What are the steps to showcasing my artwork in the gallery?” & “How much information is needed on the artist and their artwork before installation can be considered in the gallery?” James informed me that all necessary information can be located on the website of The Art Collective Gallery, and what cannot be found can be inquired through calling the gallery for more information – or even visiting the gallery in person.

Before attending the Career Fair I updated my resume, dressed in attire that would be interview suitable, and memorized mental bullet points to speak about instead of choking up and giving the wrong impression. I researched The Art Collective Gallery and B-Unlimited before the career fair and had questions in mind before visiting to strike up a conversation. I have followed up by using their company contact page to reach out and inquire about employment and future career opportunities. A goal I set for myself to achieve by the end of the semester was to create a monetary saving system to buy an inexpensive CNC laser cutter for my own home. A goal I set for myself to achieve by the end of the summer was to create a portfolio appropriate for showcasing to galleries in Fayetteville, Springdale, Bentonville and/or Rogers Arkansas. A goal I set for myself to achieve by the end of the year was to learn the basics of a new program called Blender, after discussing this program with an associate with B-Unlimited.
